Q:   Why is this a non-profit effort?

A:    Dr. Scott is eager to make the facts concerning long–term antidepressant use widely known in order to protect his fellow Americans and people in other nations.  The fact is that antidepressants can cause permanent, irreversible movement disorders and can have many other harmful side effects.   Combine this with the fact that few physicians and few of those who take antidepressants have ever heard of this research, and it becomes urgent that this message reach the widest possible audience.

In order to reduce any suspicions that the book has been written to make money rather than to share truth, Dr. Scott decided not to keep any of the profits from the sale of America Fooled.  He, in effect, freely donated the 16 months spent writing America Fooled.  “I want people to know the truth and to know that I have cited the best of the medical and psychological research literature.  For–profit books are sometimes sensational, which means they may distort the facts to attract an audience.  I wanted my readers to know there were no such motives associated with the writing of this book.”

Related to the goal of getting the message out, America Fooled is being distributed in PDF format on a CD free of charge to all physicians who request it.  Also, the Preface, Chapter 7, “Tricks of the Trade,” and additional information are available without cost on this website.  The book is sold to libraries for the institutional price of $28.95 plus shipping.  It is sold for $22.50 in bookstores.  On this site we are selling it for $18.50 plus $3.99 shipping.  Amazon.com sells it for 26¢ less ($18.24 + $3.99 shipping).  Most of your purchase price at Amazon will go to our book’s wholesaler, Baker & Taylor, as well as to Amazon.  We are required to sell at a price which is higher than Amazon’s price in order to be available through their site.  Please note that when you purchase through this americafooled.com website, your purchase price will go toward Habitat for Humanity.

A:    No.  Argo Publishing is also bypassing earnings opportunities as a public service.  None of the sales price goes toward salaries or general expenses, only toward the expense of printing and marketing.  After these costs are recouped, all monies will be donated.
